Assigned Risk Plan To Offer Coverage on Autocycles

The Connecticut Automobile Insurance Assigned Risk Plan  (ARP) will accept autocycles for coverage under rule changes  taking effect this fall. The Plan announced the changes on Sept. 26.

According to TotalRider.com, an autocycle is:

"... a motor vehicle, other than a tractor, that is:

(1) designed to have when propelled not more than three wheels on the ground;
(2) equipped with a steering wheel;
(3) equipped with seating that does not require the operator to straddle or sit astride the seat; and
(4) manufactured and certified to comply with federal safety requirements for a motorcycle."

The rule changes effective Nov. 1, 2022, make autocycles eligible for assignment under "miscellaneous nonfleet personal vehicles." However, they will be ineligible for assignment as commercial autos.  Participating insurers will have to report their writings of coverage on these vehicles.
